Style: Cerveza
ABV: 5.2%

Happy Friday everyone! Today’s New Release post will be a bit shorter, as it’s just one review – Nick’s – this week. Joe is spending some quality time with family this weekend (and hopefully introducing them to some good craft brews), so he’s relieved of blog duties. Don’t worry, he’ll be back next week to give his takes to our faithful readers! For this week’s review, I’m doing a recent small batch brew from Pitt Street Brewing Company called “Man, Go Chill.” This a cerveza/Mexican-style lager that was the idea of one of their servers, Julian. With their small batch series, the supply can run out faster, so if you aren’t able to try this one for yourself, give Pitt Street a follow on social media so you can keep up with their next small batch release!

Nick’s Take

I haven’t been to Pitt Street recently, but luckily, our friend Stephanie hooked us up with some to-go crowlers of the “Man, Go Chill” cerveza. When I poured my first glass (with the 32 oz. size, I got to have multiple glasses), I noted the abundance of foam that was at the head of my pour. The froth fleeted but some clung to the sides of the glass. The beer itself was a refreshing-looking gold that had a small level of haze to it – however, it was a clean appearance overall and looked every bit the part of a delicious cerveza.

I gave my can-shaped glass a few twirls to aggravate the beer and get some of that foamy head to return so that I could pick up the aromas. Typically, cervezas have that characteristic malty and limey smell, often enhanced with a lime wedge (a great summertime option). That was true in “Man, Go Chill” where sweet, bright malt character was coming through, as well as some citrus tones on the nose. This cerveza also brings some mango aromas, as suggested by the name. I welcomed this addition, as it added a pleasant element of sweetness.

One thing that you look for in a cerveza is a nice crisp mouthfeel and light body. “Man, Go Chill” had a nice bite of carbonation upfront that really lifted the flavors (which I’ll go into shortly). The beer looked refreshing and the mouthfeel did not disappoint. While you get that crisp feeling early in the sip, it finishes smooth (perhaps a product of the added mangoes?) and light, which is exactly what you want from a beer like this.

The flavors in this cerveza were all very clean and recognizable. The sweet, slightly corny malt was found mostly on the finish, while the sweet, juicy mango and the citrusy tartness were present early. I actually found myself not craving the addition of a lime wedge due to the boost the beer already has from adding mango into the mix. Plus, the lime flavor was prominent in the brew as it was, so garnish is definitely optional for “Man, Go Chill.”

I wish I had decided to grill up some chicken to have with this cerveza, as I think the flavors would pair well with white meat; of course, tacos would’ve also been an excellent food pairing. It’s highly drinkable with that nice hit of crispness and the tasty flavor profile. It’s sad that this beer won’t last long (and may already be unavailable at Pitt Street’s tap room), but I suspect they’ll have another great cerveza option added into their beer lineup for this summer. Hope you all will be on the lookout, and maybe we’ll see you there!
